An electronic newsletter for those interested in the use of the Internet as a Bible study tool. |
||
|
You will notice the purpose of this publication, intended for those interested in the use of the Internet as a Bible study tool. The last figure I remember hearing was that 20,000 new web sites are created every day. We are constantly inundated hearing that the Internet is full of sexual predators, pornography, hate speech, thieves, phishers of men, and other low life's. Yet, there are some really good sites out there. What I hope to do is to sort through all the garbage, and to guide you and others toward the sites that are worth your time. Many of the sites have good reference materials available, cost nothing to use, and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. I know this is not a pleasant thought for many of you, but we may yet see the replacing of your myriad of bookshelves with a small computer desktop sitting in the corner. - t.d.k. |

Add our site to your toolbarIf you use the Mozilla Firefox browser (currently not available for Internet Explorer, however that is in the works) I have created a plug-in for the Groowe search bar . This will allow you to enter your search terms without having to navigate to the site. You will have to add the Groowe search bar first (which you can find at http://www.groowe.com ). I have been impressed with this search bar and the many popular plug-ins available for it. There is information available on their site for installing your created plug-ins manually. For the most recent instructions on how to install this plug-in, see our Downloads page |

PDF file creation on a budgetOne of the most popular tools in use today is creating files or converting files to a PDF (Portable Document Format)format. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most expensive if you use the tool created by Adobe called Acrobat. However, as has been the case in our great capitalist economy, competition has produced many lower-cost alternatives with almost identical quality. These tools are not identical in every respect to Acrobat, however they have enough functionality for most users who want to publish a file in this format. Here are a couple of low cost alternatives: The advantages of this format are the file compression which occurs on conversion. In addition, the free viewer which is available almost universally, has many features and will not have the problems that could occur if you save the file in a different version of Word than those who wish to use the file. Zoho offers Zoho Writer, Zoho Sheet and Zoho Show. These are free counterparts to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, respectively. You won't find as many features as you'd find in Office, but there are just enough to be useful. The sites are similar to Microsoft Office, so there are no big learning curves. All files are saved online. You can start a document at work and finish it at home. All three applications open and save files in a variety of common formats. For example, Zoho Writer will open a previously created Word document, HTML or rich text file. It will also save any file onto your computer's hard drive as a Word, pdf, txt, rtf or html file. Another free PDF creator is called PDFCreator. As the name suggests, the download adds a PDF creator under your list of printers. Simply select a printable Windows file, print to the PDFCreator and your document will save in PDF format. You can then read, print or e-mail the finished product.

Not to be outdone by the Scots, in the weeks that followed, English scientist dug to a depth of 2000 meters and shortly after headlines in the UK newspapers read: "English archaeologists have found traces of 2000 year copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a thousand years earlier than the Scots." One week later, Texas newspapers reported the following: "After digging as deep as 5000 meters in West Texas, scientists have found absolutely nothing." They have therefore concluded that 5000 years ago Texas inhabitants were already using wireless. |
